Small business owners and independent professionals, in what ways are you not achieving your dreams?

Let's chat about what's hindering you as a small business owner or independent professional from achieving your dreams? I'll share a short story:

I met an individual sometime ago who got into the funeral business as an independent driver. All he focused on was getting calls for his driving services. Of course that's were the money was so that's where he focused. After several months he wanted to re-invest in his business and purchase additional vehicles. When he went to the bank to apply for a loan, he was asked for accurate and up to date financial information. He provided them with a few receipts he was able to find up under his driver seat. Needless to say, he was turned away by the bank as a result of insufficient documentation. He had no idea that when he started his business that he needed to keep well organized financial records. All he knew was that he wanted to start a business, and knew how to get out there and get the business. My dear friend was totally oblivious to all of the behind the scenes, back-office type functions that were extremely critical to the sucess of his business. What could have taken him only days to obtain, took him well over several months by the time he was able to compile enough financial information to present to the bank. After that experience, he hired a virtual assistant to handle his bookkeeping and appointment scheduling. This has allowed him to focus on achieving his dream of becoming a successful business owner by being able to focus on growing his business while maintaining excellent records.

What experiences have you had as a small business owner, and have you found that you just can't do everything on your own even though you try so hard to. The old adage still holds true ' if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself', or does it?
